Four apartments in one 1904 townhouse, arranged around a courtyard linden.
The House
The building went up in 1904 as a single family home and spent most of the century divided into offices. We bought it in 2017, spent two years taking the partition walls back out, and reopened it in 2019 as four apartments — one on each floor, none of them alike.
The courtyard linden is older than the house. It is where the name comes from, where the table and six chairs live from April, and the reason the ground-floor apartment keeps its door open all summer.
There is no reception desk. You get a door code the morning you arrive, and we live four streets away if anything needs us.
The Apartments
Each apartment takes a whole floor. They share a stairwell, a courtyard and a laundry — and nothing else. Rates are per night for two, with the third and fourth guest free.
Opens straight onto the courtyard. The kitchen door stays open all summer and the linden does the rest.
A bay window over the street and the original 1904 parquet, lifted and relaid board by board.
Castle hill fills the window from the reading chair. The quietest of the four, and the one guests come back to.
The largest of the four, right under the roof, with the whole floor and both skylights to yourself.
Shared
The linden, a long table and six chairs, out from the first warm week of April until it rains in October.
Your door code arrives the morning you travel. Any time from 15:00 — no front desk, nobody to wait for.
Four of them in the locked ground-floor store, free, with a pump and two child seats.
Washer and dryer on the half-landing between the first and second floors. No coins, no charge.
Wired and wireless in every apartment, and a real desk with a real chair in each one.
Two reserved spaces in the rear yard. Say so when you book — first asked, first kept.
We have stayed in a lot of apartments in a lot of cities. This is the only one where somebody had left a note about which bakery opens earliest, and was right about it.
The Neighbourhood
The house sits on a quiet side street two minutes back from the river, far enough that the terraces do not carry, close enough that you will never take a bus. Below are the walks we actually time for guests.
